Why Choose Braley Care Homes?

Braley Care Homes was created from a father and son’s passion for quality assisted living in a home-like environment, spawned from their experience in the mental health field.

Chris and Dean Braley opened Braley Care Homes on March 29, 2005. Braley Care Homes expanded into Alzheimer’s, Dementia, and, memory care services in 2008. Chris Braley is the owner and administrator of Braley Care Homes and it remains the only free-standing Alzheimer’s, Dementia, and memory care facility in West Virginia. Our facility was built with dementia care in mind and is the ideal environment for someone with this disease. It is locked 24 hours per day and has a beautiful outdoor courtyard with a pastoral view, which is secure at all times.

Our memory care activities and behavior programming is geared toward meeting each individual’s needs, which helps keep their anxiety level down and reduces the risk of behavior issues.

Chris Braley has a bachelor’s and Master’s degree in social work and is an LICSW (licensed independent clinical social worker). Chris shares, “dementia is not only in my professional life, but also in my personal life. My grandmother and father suffered from dementia, so I know the pain the families go through as they watch helplessly as their love one suffers. Our goal at Braley Care Homes is to tap into each resident’s unique qualities and help bring a calmness to both their life and their family’s life.

Embarking on the journey of planning for long-term memory care needs is both daunting and essential. As our loved ones age, it's natural to want to ensure their well-being and quality of life, especially if they face cognitive challenges like Alzheimer's or dementia. However, navigating the complexities of memory care can be overwhelming without proper preparation and guidance.

In this blog series, we'll delve into the intricacies of planning for long-term memory care needs, offering insights, resources, and strategies to help families make informed decisions. From understanding the different types of memory care facilities to financial considerations and legal aspects, we'll explore every facet of this crucial journey. Whether you're just beginning to consider options or are already deep into the process, this series aims to empower you with knowledge and support to navigate the road ahead with confidence and compassion. Join us as we embark on this vital journey together.

Financial Planning for Long-Term Memory Care

As families face the reality of long-term memory care needs for their loved ones, one of the most pressing concerns often revolves around finances. Planning for the financial aspects of long-term memory care is crucial to ensure that your loved one receives the quality care they need without undue stress on your family's resources. In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore various strategies and resources available to help you navigate the complex landscape of financial planning for long-term memory care.

Financial Planning for Long-Term Memory Care

Exploring Payment Options

Once you have a grasp of the costs associated with long-term memory care, the next step is to explore payment options. While some individuals may have savings or long-term care insurance to cover these expenses, others may need to rely on a combination of personal funds, government assistance programs, and other financial resources. It's crucial to explore all available options and determine the best approach for your family's unique situation.

Long-Term Care Insurance

Long-term care insurance can be a valuable resource for covering the costs of memory care services. If your loved one has a long-term care insurance policy, review the coverage details carefully to understand what services are included and any limitations or restrictions that may apply. If you're considering purchasing long-term care insurance, it's essential to do your research and shop around to find a policy that meets your needs and budget.

Government Assistance Programs

There are several government assistance programs available to help cover the costs of long-term memory care for eligible individuals. Medicaid, for example, provides coverage for long-term care services for low-income individuals and families. Veterans may also be eligible for benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs, including aid and attendance benefits for those who require assistance with activities of daily living. Additionally, some states offer home and community-based waiver programs that provide funding for long-term care services in non-institutional settings.

Estate Planning

Estate planning is another critical aspect of financial planning for long-term memory care. This may include creating a will, establishing a trust, or designating a power of attorney to make financial decisions on behalf of your loved one. By carefully planning and documenting your wishes, you can help ensure that your loved one's financial affairs are managed effectively in the event of incapacity or death.

Seeking Professional Guidance

Navigating the financial aspects of long-term memory care can be complex, and it's often helpful to seek guidance from financial professionals who specialize in elder care planning. An experienced financial advisor or elder law attorney can help you assess your options, maximize available resources, and develop a comprehensive plan that addresses your loved one's long-term care needs while protecting your family's financial security.

Finding Meaning and Purpose: Embracing Life in Long-Term Memory Care

Entering long-term memory care can feel like embarking on an uncertain journey, both for the individual with memory impairment and their loved ones. However, amidst the challenges, there exists a profound opportunity to discover and cultivate meaning and purpose. In this article, we explore how individuals in long-term memory care settings can embrace life, find fulfillment, and continue to contribute to their communities.

Financial Planning for Long-Term Memory Care

  • Acknowledging Individuality: Each person in long-term memory care brings a unique set of experiences, interests, and talents. Recognizing and honoring individuality is essential for promoting a sense of identity and self-worth. Whether through personalized care plans, tailored activities, or opportunities for self-expression, honoring each person's individuality lays the foundation for finding meaning and purpose in their journey.

  • Engaging in Meaningful Activities: Engagement in meaningful activities is vital for promoting cognitive stimulation, social connection, and emotional well-being. Long-term memory care settings can offer a variety of activities tailored to residents' interests and abilities, ranging from art therapy and music programs to gardening clubs and intergenerational activities. By participating in activities that resonate with their passions and preferences, individuals in memory care can experience a sense of accomplishment and purpose.

  • Fostering Connections and Relationships: Maintaining meaningful relationships is integral to human flourishing, even in the context of memory impairment. Long-term memory care environments provide opportunities for residents to connect with peers, caregivers, volunteers, and family members. These connections offer companionship, support, and a sense of belonging, enriching the lives of individuals in memory care and enhancing their overall quality of life.

  • Embracing Moments of Joy: While living with memory impairment may present challenges, it also offers opportunities to find joy and beauty in everyday moments. Whether through laughter, shared experiences, or simple acts of kindness, moments of joy abound in long-term memory care settings. By embracing these moments with gratitude and presence, individuals in memory care can cultivate a sense of happiness and fulfillment in their lives.

  • Continuing to Learn and Grow: Learning does not cease with the onset of memory impairment; rather, it takes on new forms and dimensions. Long-term memory care environments can provide opportunities for residents to engage in lifelong learning, whether through reminiscence therapy, educational workshops, or creative expression. By continuing to learn and grow, individuals in memory care can maintain a sense of curiosity, purpose, and vitality.

Conclusion

Braley Care Homes Inc, we understand the importance of meticulous planning for long-term memory care needs. Our commitment to providing compassionate and comprehensive services extends beyond mere assistance; it encompasses a dedication to supporting individuals and families on their journey ahead.
